Uniface Notes of Government of India: 1867 - 1930
The design of the notes with the Portrait of Queen Victoria was changed within a short duration to the Uniface underprint series printed on a more durable paper with increased security features. To effectively increase the circulation of these notes, the system widened its basis through important structural changes such as the introduction of a fiduciary component and ‘universalization’ of notes in 1903. The uniface notes were printed in England in denominations from 5 to 10000 Rupees. The Uniface notes were withdrawn by the Government of India in 1930 after the Bank of England discontinued to supply them
