Notes of Saurashtra States : 1914
Saurashtra, a part of Gujarat state, harboured a large concentration of princely states in India before 1948. Out of these, Morvi and Dhrangadhra issued currency notes of limited liability known indigenously as ‘Havala’, a Gujarati word meaning ‘assurance’. In this case, the assurance would be of money (the denomination on the note) available to the bearer upon encashment. These notes were issued because of the metallic currency shortage during World War I. They are simple in design and have minor security features such as embossed vignettes, micro-tints and underprints.
